Sides: The News, Every Angle — Privacy Policy

Effective date: 15 October 2026

This policy explains what information the Sides app ("Sides", "the app") handles on iOS, iPadOS and Android, and why. Sides is published by Froggy Eye Ltd, a company registered in the United Kingdom ("we", "us"). We are the data controller for the purposes of UK data protection law. Contact: info@froggyeye.com.

Summary

What the app does

Once a day, our automated system reads the public news feeds of a set of news outlets and publishes a single digest file comparing how they cover the day's top stories. The comparison is generated automatically by an AI model from headlines and short summaries. This system works only with public news content. It receives no information about you or anyone who uses the app.

Information stored only on your device

The app keeps the following on your device. It is never sent to us or anyone else:

Deleting the app deletes this information.

Downloading the daily digest

To get the day's stories, the app downloads one public file from GitHub Pages (https://mksoft-ltd.github.io/sides/), a hosting service run by GitHub, Inc. Like any web request, this reveals your device's IP address and basic technical details (such as the app's network library version) to GitHub. The request contains no identifier, account or information about what you read. We do not have access to GitHub's server logs. GitHub's privacy statement: https://docs.github.com/site-policy/privacy-policies/github-general-privacy-statement

Opening articles

When you tap a source, the original article opens in your device's web browser on the outlet's own website. That website's own privacy policy applies from that point. Sides does not track which articles you open.

Advertising (Google AdMob)

Unless you have bought the ad-free option, Sides shows a banner ad at the bottom of the screen, provided by Google AdMob (Google Ireland Limited in the UK and EEA, Google LLC elsewhere).

Buying the ad-free option stops the app from requesting ads.

Purchases

The optional ad-free purchase is processed entirely by the Apple App Store or Google Play under your account with them. We receive no payment card details, name or email address. The app only learns on your device whether the purchase was completed, so it can remove the ads. Apple's and Google's privacy policies apply to the purchase.

Lawful basis (UK GDPR)

Where personal data is processed through the advertising software, the lawful bases are your consent where it is required (collected through Google's consent form) and our legitimate interests in funding a free app with non-personalised advertising and in preventing ad fraud.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have rights to access, correct, erase, restrict and object to the processing of your personal data, to data portability, and to withdraw consent at any time. Because we hold no personal data about you, requests about advertising data are best made to Google, and you can manage ad consent in the app as described above. You can contact us at info@froggyeye.com with any question, and we will reply within one month. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (https://ico.org.uk).

Children

Sides is a general news app and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided information through the app, contact us and we will help.

Security

All network traffic from the app uses encrypted HTTPS connections. Information stored on your device is protected by your device's own security.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we will update the effective date above and publish the new version at the same address. If a change materially affects how information is handled, we will also mention it in the app's release notes.
